The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Variations on a Theme challenges us to find the endless variety that one thing can contain. Here is my take on vintage signs on the Jersey Shore. These were taken in winter, when most of the places were quite deserted.

So glad you posted these. We’ve never been to the Jersey Shore, but what you’ve shown here makes us want to go. We love vintage signs, buildings, restaurants, etc. Fave sign here: Island Breeze Motel! Oh, the tales it could probably tell!
I hadn’t been to the Jersey Shore for years and it was a fun escape, as I love beach towns in winter. However, it was about 20 degrees and blustery the whole time I was there! I was freezing! I’d like to go back to Wildwood during summer to get a feel for the somewhat tacky summer theme park and beach life there. 🙂
Really nice. Drove past some of them last October.
I love vintage signs, and I’m going to be more on the lookout for them in some road trips I’m taking this year. The Jersey Shore was freezing and blustery in December, when I was there. It was also quite deserted!
Neon signs are SO American. These seem very Californian 🙂
Maybe all the seashore signs look alike. I love vintage Americana, Jude. I can’t wait to explore the SW this April. 🙂
These are great! And oh my! That blue sky!!
Thanks Dawn. The blue sky is a bit deceiving as it was freezing and blustery! But it was pretty. 🙂
Wonderful!
Thanks, Lynn! 🙂
Thank you for the memories. My parents took us to Wildwood when we were children many moons ago. Love the vintage signs.
I’m glad my signs brought back memories, Sandy. I bet when you went to Wildwood as children, it was a lot busier and alive than in the middle of December, when it was icy cold and deserted! 🙂
Yes it was pretty busy in July and I remember the boardwalk being hot but being with the family on vacation was great!
What a delightful collection of Americana. Vintage signs in bright pastel tones! Love it. Especially partial to Laura’s fudge shop.
Peta
Thanks, Peta. I’m glad you like it. I loved the colorful Laura’s fudge shop too. I’m going on a road trip out west in April and can’t wait to explore more of vintage Americana. 🙂
Oh my gosh, I grew up in northern NJ and spent many a week at the Jersey shore. Your post brought back some VERY fond memories! Great shots.
I bet you do have great memories, Tina. I’m glad to have brought back some good memories. 🙂
Lovely colourful signs, but some how they look a bit sad with no crowds around them, sort of deserted city, like the Marie Celeste. Good interpretation of the theme.
Haha, you’re right Pauline. They do look a bit sad. It really was deserted as it was mid-December, below freezing and blustery. Brrr.
I’ve put a like but don’t think I would like being there in winter….
I don’t think you would have much cared for the freezing temps and the blustery, biting wind, Pauline! But there’s something I find oddly inviting about a deserted beach town.
Oh I just love these. I had no idea the Jersey shore was so retro.
Thanks, J.D. I love the retro parts of Jersey, especially Wildwood. I’d like to go back there in springtime when there’s a little more action!
