walking through woods on a snowy morning

Sunday, December 8:  This morning, snowflakes began their slow drift from the Virginia skies, and I decided I had to go out for a stroll through the trees, sprinkled with powder.   The forecast called for the snow to turn to freezing rain by the afternoon, so I went out into the gray morning.  The last time I experienced snow was in Daegu, South Korea on January 4, 2011, so it was lovely to feel the wet cool drops on my skin and to see the speckled white trail before me.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course, while I was walking, even though it wasn’t evening, and even though I don’t have a horse, I couldn’t help but think of Robert Frost’s famous poem.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

  1. Lovely. I don’t remember the last time I walked in the snow. While I don’t miss the cold (and my toes never seemed to get warm) I think there’s something hauntingly beautiful about the silence of freshly fallen snow

  2. Quite different from Oman, isn’t it? A relief I suspect. I would dearly love to go out for a walk in the snow, but a temperature of 5 (even above zero) just doesn’t do it for me.

  3. Being out in the woods does evoke simpler times for me, too. Although I am never quite sure how simple it was to live in the woods and take a day or two with a horse and carriage to reach the nearest town (where today it would take an hour or so by car).
It was so icy and sleety today, I never made it outside today….hope you enjoyed your walk.

    1. I know, Annette, I can’t imagine traveling for two days out in the elements by horse! It does sound quite romantic in Frost’s poem, though. Today, all the snow and rain has turned to ice and we have icicles on the trees. Too bad for me ~ school isn’t cancelled. 😦

  4. Thanks for sharing! Living in Florida, I don’t get to see snow anymore. Your pictures paint a gloomy, solemn morning and how the woods can be bare, open and vulnerable.

    1. Yes, I love that Robert Frost poem, Jo. We got more snow yesterday and school was canceled, but some melted off yesterday and the roads are cleared, so it’s back to work I go. Glad you at least got a pretty pink sunrise.

By the way, I got a lovely Christmas card in the mail yesterday!! Thanks so much! I don’t think I will get around to sending Christmas cards, but I hope you have a wonderful holiday. 🙂 Your visit to Chatworth House with Lisa was a perfect kick-off to the holiday season. 🙂 xxx

      1. They are a waste of money (cards) Cathy and the money would be better going to a charity, but I have quite a few to send abroad, so you’re very welcome.. Freezing fog then sunshine. Went to buy the tree and take wreaths to cemetery. Busy, busy, busy 🙂

      2. It always is a busy time of year, isn’t it, Jo? We should be putting our tree up in the next couple of days and then I need to do some Christmas shopping. Freezing fog? I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that! Stay warm, Jo! 🙂
